Just a short ode to green papaya salad.
At this year’s 2nd Annual Mid-Autumn Harvest Festival at the Tenderloin Rec Center in San Francisco, we had green papaya salad galore.
I didn’t even know there were so many regional variations between Thai, Vietnamese, Laotian, and Cambodian style papaya salads.
The demonstrations were fascinating…
And the green papaya salads were delicious! I noticed the Thai peppers were sharper and hotter in the beginning, whereas the Cambodian salad had a heat that really lingered.
Much thanks to community organizer Ratha Kim (left), shown here with another volunteer of the Southeast Asian Arts and Culture Coalition, for inviting me!
Can’t wait till next year’s festival!
