Here are some questions from students about my short story “Saving Sourdi” along with my answers. This may be helpful to other students writing papers about the story.

Dear May-Lee,
I am planning to have my students read Hapa Girl as part of our First-Year Composition class as San Francisco State this fall. I would love for my students to be able to speak directly with you: are you available to talk with college classes? My class will be meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m.
My background is in Women’s Studies and I am pursuing a second graduate degree so that I can teach writing. I collect women’s autobiography and Girl from Purple Mountain is one of my cherished favorites. Thank you for the kind of writing that you do.
I would like to expose my students to a piece of academic writing about your work. I don’t find any articles in my initial search. Are you aware of articles in academic journals?
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for considering working with me. I really want my students to have experiences with writing and writers that will inspire them to love writing.
Best wishes,
Sheryl Fairchild
Dear Sheryl,
